In the wake of a local woman's murder, the guests and staff at Monkswell Manor find themselves stranded during a snowstorm. It becomes clear that the killer is among them, and the seven strangers grow increasingly suspicious of each other. A police detective arrives on skis to question the suspects, including the newlywed owners of the house, a spinster with a mysterious background, an architect who seems more fit for the role of a chef, a retired Army major, a peculiar man who claims his car overturned in a drift, and a jurist who causes misery for everyone. As tensions rise and another murder takes place, fears escalate.
