Celebrating Our Past by Building Towards the Future
On Saturday, October 28th, 2017, the Plaza Playhouse Theater ushered in a new era to take its proud place in history by returning to its original namesake: the Alcazar Theatre.
We celebrate this milestone 90th anniversary with all of you, our theatergoers, patrons, supporters, and community members by kicking off the biggest and boldest Capital Campaign in our history.
Our founder Oliver Prickett’s big dream was to enrich the lives of the community through the theater arts. On April 27, 1928, thanks to his steadfast vision, the Alcazar Theatre welcomed elated Carpinteria theatergoers through its doors for the very first time. And while movies have played an important role in the theatre’s history, the Alcazar is much more than just a movie house.
Since its inception, the Alcazar has honored its role as the center of arts and entertainment for the entire Carpinteria Valley community and beyond. Today, when you come to the theatre, you can attend a variety of movies, musical concerts, theatrical plays, comedy shows, educational workshops and more.
